Art Bead Scene: February 2013 Challenge

I'm back!

After months of blog inactivity and a short vacation from claying, I decided to go back to my craft with another Art Bead Scene challenge.

For this month, the inspiration was from Toshi Yoshida's skillful woodblock print "Heijinja, 1941".

Toshi Yoshida's "Heijinja, 1941"
The flame red focal color reminds me so much of Love and Valentine's day and so as the Cherry Blossoms blooming.

With this I created an asymmetrical necklace using Red and the cherry blossoms as my main focal points. And I named my piece, "Sakura".

The flowers are all finished with alcohol inks, inka gold and mica powders. And I incorporated it with plastic and acrylic beads to complete my palette.

Happy claying everyone!

Art Bead Scene: February Challenge Entry

As I mentioned in my previous blog entry, I decided to join the Art Bead Scene February Challenge taking inspiration from the painting "The Conference of Birds".

I made my focal pendant with polymer clay, sculpting a green bird with floral swirls as a background.

Then I completed the necklace with glass and acrylic beads in earth tones and inserted antique spacer beads to complete the vintage look.

I'm really looking forward in joining more challenges in the months to come.

Art Bead Scene February Challenge

As I browsed through Craftgossip.com, I saw a blog encouraging artists and designers to create an art bead using their month's challenge theme. I would really like to try this one out and really challenge my artistic abilities. Here is the theme:

The Conference of the Birds by Habiballah
Page from a manuscript of the Mantiq al-Tayr (The Language of the Birds) of Farid al-Din `Attar
 ca. 1600; Safavid Iran (Isfahan)
Opaque watercolor, ink, silver, gold on paper
10 x 4 1/2 in. (25.4 x 11.4 cm)
Seeing this picture, I was inspired. I even have ideas churning into my head already. I will try to submit an entry for this and let's see what happens. Maybe I will do this in the coming weekend.
